HIGH QUALITY “ZERO TDS” WATER SOURCE
Spectra Chrome’s silvering process makes use of unique, water-based solutions – requiring a high quality water source. A handheld TDS meter is included with your LI System, which measures the amount of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) present in your water. The three-digit number displayed represents the Total Dissolved Solids in parts per million (ppm).
To achieve a perfect silver deposit, your water source must always have a TDS reading of .000 ppm.
One easy and cost-effective method to obtain water with a TDS reading of .000 is to purchase a Culligan ZeroWater system; which filters tap water from your kitchen faucet and removes the dissolved solids.
The ZeroWater system can be purchased at any major retailer, and is a convenient option for on-demand quality water for Spectra Chrome silvering chemistry. However, an even more cost-effective option is to purchase distilled water from your local grocery store.
We purchased several gallons of distilled water from various local grocery stores; and all of the jugs tested with the TDS meter read .000 ppm. We recommend this as the easiest and most inexpensive way to source high quality water for your DIY System.
It is a good idea to test the quality of one single jug of your store’s distilled water before purchasing multiple gallons.
