BASECOAT GUN SETTINGS

When spraying Basecoat 812-E with the Central Pneumatic 20 oz. HVLP spray gun, we recommend the settings shown below. These are the optimal settings to achieve a smooth, flat, shiny basecoat finish.

Most HVLP spray guns allow for these same adjustments. If you are using a different spray gun, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

② Fan Pattern
The fan pattern should be set 1/2 turn out from the most narrow fan pattern, or “pencil”.

  • First, rotate the fan pattern knob fully clockwise; then rotate the knob counter-clockwise 1/2 turn. The indicator mark on the knob should be 180° from the starting position.

③ Fluid Control
The fluid control should be set at 2 1/4 turns out from complete shutoff.

  • Rotate the fluid control knob fully clockwise; then rotate the knob 2 1/4 turns counter-clockwise. Use the indicator mark on the knob to help determine the amount of rotation.

④ Air Control (Internal)
The internal air control should be all the way open.

  • Rotate the air control knob fully counter-clockwise. This knob is always set to the fully open position.

⑤ Pressure Gauge
⑥ Air Control (External)

The air control valve is attached to the bottom of the spray gun, and controls the precise incoming air pressure. It should be set to 22-25 PSI.

  • Squeeze the gun trigger down half way; so that compressed air is emitted, but no paint. While holding the trigger, adjust the external air control knob until the pressure gauge reads 22-25 PSI.
