TINTING THE TOPCOAT
By adding tints to your Topcoat 311, you can achieve a Spectra Chrome finish of virtually any color. A complete set of Spectra Chrome tints is included with every LI System purchase — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, and black.
Spectra Chrome tints are super-concentrated and very easy to use. Simply add drops of tints to your mixed Topcoat 311, and apply over the “glossy/frosty” topcoat layer.
By mixing combinations of the seven Spectra Chrome tints, you can produce an unlimited range of colors. With some practice and experimentation, you will be able to readily achieve any color you desire. Keep in mind that several factors influence the exact color achieved:
In this example, 5 drops of red pigment were added to 1 oz. of mixed Topcoat 311. Each tile was sprayed with a light coat of the red topcoat mixture. The number of coats on each tile increases as you go down the set of tiles.
One light coat can yield a pink hue, and each additional coat adds to the intensity of the previous coating. With a little practice mixing tints, it is easy to achieve the exact coloration desired, while still applying the proper thickness of topcoat.
Alternatively, you can achieve a deeper topcoat color by simply adding more drops of tints to your mixed Topcoat 311.
By adding more drops of color, your tinted Topcoat 311 formula is “stronger” — and will produce a darker color with fewer coats. We illustrate this in the ADD LINK: Special Projects: Chess Pieces — Topcoat section.
There are an unlimited number of colors that can be achieved by mixing combinations of Spectra Chrome tints. Here are some of the most popular formulas — mixed into 2 oz. of Topcoat 311.
Volume of Topcoat 311 – 2 oz.
Add (1) drop of blue and (1) drop of violet
