SPRAY GUN ACCESSORIES
Every gravity-feed spray gun comes stock with a top-mounted hopper to hold paint. While this stock reservoir works, there are a variety of after-market accessories available to streamline your painting process, as well as make cleanup much easier.
Here, we outline three options for delivering paint to your spray gun; and explore the limitations and benefits of each.
STOCK HOPPER (STANDARD)
The standard, stock hopper that comes with your gravity feed spray gun works — but it has some limitations:
- It lacks a built in filter, and requires you to pre-filter paint as it is poured into the hopper.
- You must keep the gun upright at all times, so gravity can feed the paint into the gun.
- Cleaning after use requires a full teardown; which requires significant time and lacquer thinner.
SPECTRUM UNIVERSAL PAINT SYSTEM (UPS) 20 oz.
The Spectrum Universal Paint System (UPS) can be purchased at your local Harbor Freight store. It provides many advantages over the stock hopper:
- The UPS incorporates a screen built-in to the lid which filters the paint as you spray — eliminating the need for messy pre-filtering.
- Paint is held in a flexible, vacuum-sealed inner liner. As you spray, the liner collapses to ensure a continuous flow of paint, even when the gun is held upside-down. This gives you freedom to position the gun at any angle necessary to get complete paint coverage on your work piece.
- The inner liner is disposable; which greatly reduces the amount of time and lacquer thinner needed to clean the spray gun.
- It allows for quick and easy color swapping when using multiple colors of topcoat.
SAGOLA DISPOSABLE PAINT CUPS (DPC) 7 oz.
The Sagola Disposable Paint Cup (DPC) system can be purchased directly from Spectra Chrome; and offers all the same advantages over the stock hopper as the Universal Paint System (UPS) from Harbor Freight. However, the Sagola DPC system comes in a smaller 7 oz. size — which is better suited for the LI System’s smaller typical spray volumes.
